This is a completely plein air painting I created over three days in September of 2021. I stood at the mouth of City Creek Canyon overlooking Salt Lake City and painted in the early mornings. Every morning just before the sun came up over the canyon rim, a wind would kick up and then gradually subside as warm sunshine swept down the facing rim.
On my first two days it was sunny. On the third, clouds rolled in and I decided to add them. I felt that the darker skies added drama to the scene. Occasionally the light would break through the clouds and show the shadow line once again.
