I passed this device outside of a welder's shop in Anson, TX in the Summer of 2020, not knowing even what it was, but knowing without a doubt that I wanted to paint it. This device is a power hammer and is/was used by blacksmiths to shape hot iron. I fell in love with the shape and form of this machine from the moment I saw it. A few weeks ago, I caught up with the owner and got the full history of this machine and it is an amazing story, to be sure. I hope that I have captured the spirit of this machine in my painting.
