Studio painting done for the 2021 Grand Canyon Celebration of Art.
Artist Statement: 2020 felt as though it would never end. And, if there is poetry to be found in the year of the pandemic it would appear in the metaphor of an eternal winter. I love the gorgeous light that envelops the canyon at the beginning and end of each day, tied to the rise and fall of the sun. “A Long December” was painted one year after the beginning of our national hibernation and portrays the canyon from the South Rim Trail looking north towards Bright Angel Point at sunset, in winter, blanketed in snow.
