God's Sunset

Inspiration: This is part of a series of paintings that's in progress right now. This past January I was amazed at how beautiful the sunsets were. It made me think God was up there with a giant paintbrush putting the clouds and colors in the sky. So, I wanted to create a series of sunset paintings all titled "God's Sunset".
Process: Recently, I've been thinking about asking for God's direction in painting. I started by asking God what I should photograph. The warm sunset lighting on the tree caught my eye. Then I ask God to give me guidance at each step throughout the painting. It feels more freeing to paint this way. It feels like I can paint better than what I'm naturally capable of.
